As a continued challenge from his beloved wife Susana, Escalera continued to paint wildlife. His challenge was to move away from the human anatomy and to capture the animal kingdom as precisely and accurately as he could. Painting animals as the focal point of a piece lasted for a “season” of his life. He eventually segued back to the human form where, he believed, his greatest challenges lied. Interestingly, the name “Las Margarita’s” is addressing the flowers in the pasture even though the focal point of the painting are the cattle.
